We use them at work for our contract proofs that our customers sign off on.
What I really like about them is the fact that if you do a nozzle clean on them the printer will go through the cleaning cycle. Than it will print a test pattern. Than it will look at the test pattern all by itself! If it sees any missing blocks in the pattern it will re-do another nozzle clean.

It will do this like up to 5 times. That is rarely required but can happen from time to time. I just love the fact that once I start a nozzle clean I can walk away and know that it will perform it how ever many times is necessary before it begins printing the work I sent to it. And I don't have to babysit it. My time is way more valuable. I am so pleased with it. The seller packed it really well on a pallet and it made its way across the country from Washington State all the way to North Georgia where I live.
I got it unpacked and set up. Put fresh ink cartridges in it and after 2 Nozzle Checks and 1 Deep Clean the printer was printing perfectly!
The only thing I wish Epson Stylus Pro 7880 Printer would do that it doesn't is print 44" wide. But I knew it wouldn't do that when I bought it. It takes bigger paper — this can be expensive to keep in stock. Ink cartridges are much higher capacity — they are cheaper in the long run, but expensive to keep a set of spares.

If you really want good results with third party papers, then consider getting custom profiles made or even looking at making your own we do. The printer can do an auto nozzle check at start-up if you want. The has a powerful vacuum system for keeping media flat — much stronger than in smaller printers, and a definite advantage if there is any residual curl in your media.

There are a number of markings on the printer that make it pretty easy to accurately load single sheets of paper.
You will need to load individual sheets though. If you are using roll paper and the cutter, the prints fall out of the printer when finished.
Testing a printer for print quality can be highly subjective, all the more so if you use your own colour images. Both images have lots of components to specifically test different aspects of printer performance. I also use both for testing the performance of printer profiles.
